I’d like to nominate Lucy Casado for her dedication and selflessness shown to countless creators of music for a lifetime. Lucy Casado, at 87 years young, is known as the namesake and owner of Lucy’s El Adobe Restaurant, a famous haunt of many Hollywood Celebrities.
More than the enchiladas and margaritas served, though, Lucy has created a culture of compassion and love for the arts, politics and charity work. Musicians including Linda Ronstadt, Glenn Frey and Don Henley of The Eagles, Jimmy Webb, Jackson Browne and many others have credited her for feeding them and nurturing their hopes and aspirations during their “starving artist” years as undiscovered musicians.
This is no ordinary Mexican restaurant, and there’s one person to hold accountable, Lucy. You might walk in during the 2 weeks every year that she hosts 5-10 monks who travel from Tibet to create a mandala for peace at the restaurant while being fed and hosted by Lucy.
You may walk into a political press conference, as Jerry Brown, the current Governor of California, refers to Lucy as his adopted mother and calls her Mrs. California. She was the founder of California’s oldest Hispanic organization – the Mexican American Political Association, and she’s tireless when it comes to using her powers for good, whether it be supporting the arts or creating or supporting foundations to help people she loves, or just feeding people and making them happy for the 50 years her restaurant has been open. Lucy is truly, among other many other things, the heart of art!
